KKB Polls: Results expected to be known by 10pm

HULU SELANGOR: A total of 39,362 voters will cast their ballots in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) state by-election today, and the official result is expected to be announced at about 10pm.

All 18 voting centres, comprising 74 streams, will be opened from 8am to 6pm, except for the polling station at SJK (C) Bukit Fraser, catering to 40 voters, which will close at 2pm, Bernama reported. The official results will then be announced at the tallying centre at the Hulu Selangor Multipurpose Hall and District Sports Complex here.

According to the Election Commission (EC), the KKB constituency has 40,226 registered voters, comprising 39,362 ordinary voters, 625 policemen, 238 military personnel, their spouses, and one overseas absentee voter.

Last Tuesday, 97%, or 769 police and military personnel, as well as their spouses, cast their ballots as early voters in the by-election.

The official campaign period, which concluded at 11.59pm yesterday, saw the poll’s four contestants make a final push to meet as many voters as possible.

The by-election is being contested by Pang Sock Tao of Pakatan Harapan, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

It is being held following the death of incumbent assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, 58, on March 21.

Lee had defeated three opponents from Perikatan, PRM and Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (Muda) in last August’s state election by a majority of 4,119 votes.

None of the candidates will cast their ballots in the by-election because they are registered as voters outside the constituency.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said 1,133 police personnel will be deployed to ensure smooth voting.
