No to violence: Second suspect for acid-splashing case released on police bail

KUALA LUMPUR: The second suspect detained in connection with the acid-splashing attack on national footballer Faisal Halim has been released on police bail.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the suspect, in his late 30s, was released on Saturday (May 11) following the expiry of his remand.

"He was released after we completed the interrogation process.

"However, he can always be called up again at any time if needed despite being released on police bail," the CID said in a statement on Saturday (May 11).

The CID is still investigating the case further to identify and track down other suspects.

It was reported that the suspect was detained in Bandar Baru Bangi on May 6.

National winger Faisal, who is also known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack on Sunday (May 5) at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.

Police received information from the public at 5.51pm last Sunday that a national footballer was splashed with liquid believed to be acid.

The reason behind the attack is also uncertain.

Images of his injuries on his face and body are going viral on social media and many netizens are in shock that such an incident happened to a national football player.

Just days prior to the attack, his Harimau Malaya teammate Akhyar Rashid was robbed in Kuala Terengganu and suffered cuts and bruises.

On Tuesday (May 7) night, former national captain Safiq Rahim escaped unhurt after two men broke the rear windscreen of his car in Johor Baru.
