PETALING JAYA: The 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results will be released on May 27 as scheduled, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

In a Facebook post, the minister said the scheduled release of the results would not affect the teachers’ vacation as they could continue to carry out activities that had been planned during the week-long school holidays starting from May 25.

“The Education Ministry, under the management of the Examination Syndicate, needs enough time to process the results carefully and accurately.

“At the same time, it also takes into account other matters including application dates and University Central Unit (UPU) updates and others for the purpose of entering SPM graduate candidates at a higher level.

“In the same development, SPM results can be accessed online (myresultspm.moe.gov.my) or through SMS.

“For candidates who do not have access, they can go to any nearby school to check and get the results.

“The school has a long period of time to plan and coordinate the management mechanism as well as the administration of tasks related to the release of the 2023 SPM exam results,” she said in the post, which reproduced what she said in a press conference after the launch of the state-level “Highly Immersive” 2024 Carnival at SMK Saujana Indah in Seberang Perai, Penang, yesterday.

She said the ministry management would also hold engagement sessions with all state education departments as soon as possible to ensure the smooth release of SPM results and at the same time the well-being of all teachers.

She added that the celebration ceremony, if any, did not have to be done the same week.

“It can be implemented when school reopens.

“School administrators are asked to ensure that teachers who have made holiday or travel plans are not disturbed.”

On Thursday, the ministry announced that the results of the 2023 SPM examination, involving 395,870 candidates, would be released from 10am onwards on May 27.

However, National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Fouzi Singon appealed for it to be released earlier on May 23 as the official release date falls on a school holiday.

In a statement released on Thursday, Fouzi said the date issued by the ministry was not suitable because teachers had already made plans for the upcoming week-long school holidays starting on May 25.

He also said that teachers required ample time to prepare for the holiday season after investing much time and effort into their students’ academic growth throughout the year.
