Tree falls along Jalan Macalister, Penang due to downpour


GEORGE TOWN: A massive tree fell across Jalan Macalister during a downpour on Saturday (May 11), damaging five cars.

Video and photos on social media show the tree uprooted and toppled across the road near a budget hotel.

A vehicle was seen near the fallen tree, with debris and tree branches all over the road.

According to the Civil Defence Force, no one was injured during the incident, but one car has been counted as a total loss.

"We received a report at 9.59am on the incident. The four other cars have minor damages.

"Clearance works are still being carried out," said the statement on Saturday.

Parts of Macalister Road remain closed.
