Anwar and Zahid congratulate Pang

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao for winning the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election.

He made the announcement during the 25th PKR anniversary celebration held at Sentul Depot here last night.

“We were attacked but we did not give way, even though we were defeated in a few areas (by-election) where we upheld our principles. We will continue to fight for the rights of every citizen in this country.

“We have seen during the KKB by-election campaign that this issue (race and religion) was played up (by the Opposition).

“How can this happen when the majority of Malaysians and its Parliament representatives are Muslim?” he told the crowd at the celebration.

Meanwhile, at the gathering to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Umno at its headquarters in WTC, Kuala Lumpur, party president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated the Umno machinery in Hulu Selangor, which had contributed to Pakatan’s victory.

Ahmad Zahid said the Umno machinery in Kuala Kubu Baru worked hard during the campaign period despite being scorned by the Opposition as they believed in the resilience of the unity government.

“Congratulations to the Pakatan candidate (Pang Sock Tao) and DAP itself on their win in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

“I want to especially thank the Barisan Nasional and Umno machinery, as this win was in the spirit of togetherness by the unity government components,” said Ahmad Zahid.
