Woman killed, brother fighting for his life after early morning crash in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A woman was killed instantly while her teenage brother is struggling for his life at Keningau Hospital after they were involved in an accident on Sunday (May 12).

In the 2.30am incident, the victim, identified as 22-year-old Nurul Syakina Kasim, was driving from Tenom towards Keningau.

She reportedly lost control of the car and hit a four-wheel drive coming from the opposite direction at Mile 27 of the Keningau-Tenom Road.

Nurul Syakina succumbed to serious head injuries, Keningau OCPD Supt Yampil Anak Garai said.

“Her 17-year-old brother, who was found unconscious, suffered a severe leg injury and fractured his left arm. He is treated at the hospital’s Red Zone,” he added.

He said the other driver, a 38-year-old man travelling alone, escaped with minor injuries.

The Fire and Rescue Services Department extricated Nurul Syakina and her injured brother from the wreckage.

Supt Yampil said a post-mortem will be conducted and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
