Falling tree narrowly misses Melaka CM's car, lead car in convoy damaged


KUALA LUMPUR: The lead car in Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh’s convoy was damaged when a tree fell on Jalan Pinang here.

According to the Melaka Chief Minister, he was stuck in a traffic jam in his car as the convoy was passing through the area during heavy rain.

"Unfortunately the tree hit the back of my escort car. I am safe and hope that the authorities will monitor the trees around this city," he said in a brief statement on Monday (May 13).

City police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the incident occurred at 3.26pm on Monday (May 13).

He said four cars and five motorcycles, including the lead convoy car, a police MPV, were damaged in the incident.

"There were no casualties reported involving motorists or their passengers," he said.

Ab Rauf's press secretary Ezlyn Fardiha Zainal, when contacted by Bernama, said the Chief Minister was travelling in another car headed to a meeting.

"The back windscreen and bonnet of the police car were damaged. Ab Rauf's car was not hit and he was unharmed," she said.
