Mother and two kids missing after leaving Welfare Dept shelter


PETALING JAYA: A woman and her two children have gone missing after leaving protective custody.

In a statement on Monday (May 13), Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Jaa'far said that the 25-year-old woman, five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son were staying at a Welfare Department shelter.

"The missing person is a victim of domestic abuse," he said, adding that the victim told police that her husband was a drug addict.

"She was sent to the Seksyen 6 police station before being placed under the Welfare Department's protection.

"The Shah Alam Welfare Department brought them to the shelter at around 1.30pm on May 10.

"It is believed that she left the shelter willingly," he said.

ACP Shahrulnizam said investigation revealed that she asked for permission to go to a mosque and left at around 4.30pm on May 10.

He said the shelter lodged a police report the next day (May 11).

She is believed to have a third child, a son, who is believed to be with the father. Their location is unknown.

"Those with information regarding their whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer Insp Mohd Safuan Alias at 011-1025 5725 or 03-7874 2222," he said.
