THE United Indian Cultural Society (Unics) hosted Tamilar Panpaadu Vizha 2024 for university students, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The event, which was held at the Uniten engineering campus, featured cultural exhibitions and traditional games and competitions.

The students had the opportunity to try their hand at “kolam” making, lighting decoration, “thoranam” weaving, “saram” weaving and sugarcane stripping, among others.

The organising committee president Ramathi Ravichandran said cultural and artistic events such as this one were intended to keep Indian students in tertiary education institutions engaged with their culture and community.

At the same time, it also introduces cultural elements to students of other communities.

Unics would organised such events during Ponggal and Deepavali for kids from children’s homes and poor families to make the festivals special for them, she said.
