Cops seize RM115,000 worth of drugs in Pengkalan Jaya raid, one arrested

IPOH: The police have arrested a 47-year-old man and seized about RM115,000 worth of drugs at Pengkalan Jaya here.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the police found the man on his motorcycle at a parking lot at about 1.15pm on Monday (May 13) and added that the man is believed to have been about to distribute the drugs found on him.

"We acted on a tip off. We found a sling bag containing 20 plastic packets of drugs, believed to be heroin that weighed about 9,200g, in the basket of the motorcycle the man was riding on," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 14).

"The unemployed man also tested positive for morphine. A background check found that the man has previous crime cases, including for drugs," he said, adding that the police also seized about RM250 during the arrest.

Comm Mohd Yusri said the man is believed to have been actively distributing drugs since early this month and is an active member of a syndicate.

"The drugs were meant to be distributed locally in the state, and the amount seized can be used by about 12,000 people," he said.

He added that the man would be remanded for six days until May 19 to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"The success of this case was due to the continued cooperation between the people and the police.

"We urge the people to continue channeling information of any drug-related activities to us so that we can take the necessary action to ensure the state is free from it," said Comm Mohd Yusri.
