55 illegal foreigners, including baby, held in raids

SEREMBAN: Immigration officers have detained 55 undocumented foreigners during raids carried out here and in Nilai.

State Immigration director Kennith Tan Aik Kiang said 200 foreigners were screened during the two-day operation carried out at 27 locations beginning Monday.

Those detained were 30 Indonesians, Bangladeshis (11), Vietnamese and Myanmar nationals (six each) and two Pakistanis.

“In one of the raids, five Indonesian men tried to escape but they were caught after a short chase.”

He also said that 10 women and a year-old-baby were among those detained.

In a statement, Tan said the foreigners would be investigated for violating Immigration laws and regulations such as overstaying, not having valid travel documents and entering the country illegally.

He said 12 Malaysians believed to be the employers and owners of premises had been summoned to be present at the department to assist in investigations.

“We would like to thank the public for providing us with information on the presence of the illegals at the said locations,” he said.
