Bawang Assan SUPP chief sworn in as Senator for a second term

SIBU: Bawang Assan SUPP chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew has been sworn in as a Senator for a second term.

Though elated with the re-appointment, he was however sad that he could not be sworn in before the late Datuk Mutang Tagal who had passed away.

"It is with sadness that I stand here to be sworn in not before the Dewan Negara president, the late Mutang Tagal, who had wanted to preside over my swearing in that was fixed for last Thursday (May 9).

"I send my deepest condolences to his family members and loved ones on his passing," said Lau, 59, in a Facebook post Thursday (May 16).

He pledged to continue providing good service as a Senator.

"I shall continue with what I had done during my first term. I have sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution of this beloved country.

"At the same time, I shall continue to speak on issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

"MA 63 was the document that gave birth to Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963 and is the foundation of our Constitution. These two documents form the pillars of and shape the character of our country," he added
