PETALING JAYA: Educators at the Maverick International Primary School in Semenyih became rock stars, doctors, engineers and flight attendants in a vibrant and joyous celebration of Teachers Day yesterday.

The day was themed “What Would You Be if You’re Not a Teacher?” and saw the school’s 55 teachers dress up and step into the shoes of various professions to the delight of their 375 pupils.

The teachers traded rulers, chalk, textbooks and uniforms for the colourful jackets and robes of other professions for the event’s fashion show.

Principal Kauthamraja Naidu Narasumalu said teachers are not only educators but also individuals with diverse talents and dreams.

“Today, we celebrate their versatility and the invaluable contributions they make to our community,” he said when contacted.

The day began with the pupils from Year One to Six creating and colouring Teachers Day cards for their beloved educators, who beamed with gratitude over the beautiful messages from their pupils.

“The students also recited poetry and performed a special dance,” said Kauthamraja.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the teachers’ fashion show, he said.

“Teachers strutted down the runway, striking poses that elicited cheers and enthusiastic applause from the children.

“Some students even reached out their hands in excitement, eager to interact with their favourite teachers in their new personas,” he added.

Parents contributed to the festive spirit by providing food and treats for everyone to show their appreciation.

“The day was a testament to the strong bond between our teachers, students and parents,” said Kauthamraja.

“It was great to see everyone coming together to honour our educators’ dedication and hard work.”
