Elderly man fined RM10,000 for drunk driving

KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man was fined RM10,000 after he was found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry handed down the sentence on Sahid Asik on Friday (May 17) and ordered him to spend five months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

Nur Faezah also sentenced the 64-year-old to a day in prison and suspended his driving licence for two years.

According to the facts of the case, a breathalyser test during the incident in February revealed that the alcohol content in the accused's blood exceeded the legal limit to drive.

He was charged under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Inspector Rodi Wong prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
