Melaka Immigration Department busts illegal bird's nest factory in late-night raid

MELAKA: The Melaka Immigration Department busted an illegal bird's nest factory during a late-night raid at a bungalow in Taman Sutera Emas, Krubong here.

Its state director, Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini, said the raid was conducted at 11.45pm on Friday (May 17); 10 Bangladeshi men and two Myanmar women were caught working inside the house.

"Two locals were also summoned for questioning," he said on Saturday(May 18).

Anirwan Fauzee said those detained were aged 35 to 51, and the premises did not have a licence to conduct business.

He said 19 of his men were involved in the raid.

"Preliminary findings showed that a 42-year-old local woman rented the bungalow for RM2,000 a month and turned the premises into an illegal factory," he said.

Anirwan Fauzee said the factory has been operational for the past seven months.

He said the 39-year-old husband of the woman was also summoned as a witness to assist in the investigation.

He added that all 12 illegal immigrants were sent to Machap Umboo Immigration Detention Camp in Alor Gajah.
