Six arrested for street racing in Iskandar Puteri


ISKANDAR PUTERI: Six men, including two foreigners, have been arrested for street racing during an operation at Medini Utama Highway here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the suspects were arrested during Ops Samseng Jalanan conducted by the its traffic investigation and enforcement department.

The operation was conducted from 11pm on Saturday (May 18) to 5am on Sunday (May 19).

"The location was selected based on the surveillance and information gathered by the police. It is known as a hotspot for street racing.

"They also organise drag races every weekend, which disturbs the neighbourhood with loud noise and poses a safety risk to other road users.

"We arrested six men aged between 17 and 27, including two foreign men, during the operation," he said in a statement here on Sunday.

Police also confiscated six vehicles under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving.

"We have also seized 30 cars under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act for modifying their exhaust pipes and engines.

"A total of 48 summonses were also issued for various traffic offences," he added.
