Surviving cop says he is filled with sadness over his colleagues’ deaths

JOHOR BARU: Despite surviving two gunshot wounds, Kpl Mohd Hasif Roslan was struck by sadness as he watched the remains of his two colleagues being carried out of Hospital Sultan Ismail here.

He said he could see the two hearses carrying their bodies leaving the hospital’s forensics department.

“A heavy feeling of sadness filled my heart, especially when I saw their remains being carried out through a window in my ward. It was a very heartbreaking sight. What hurts me the most is not being able to pay my last respects and physically join in the funeral prayers,” he said when met after Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim paid him a visit at the ward yesterday.

The father of three said he had known Konst Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar and Konst Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said for about two years.

Mohd Hasif, 38, said he witnessed the funeral prayers through a live-streamed video on social media.

“Although I am grateful to have survived the attack, my feeling is mixed with a great deal of sadness,” he said, adding that he is recovering well.

His wife, teacher Siti Nur Ha Kamal Hishamudin, 34, said she received a call from her husband at about 4am on Friday.

“I was shocked but grateful that my husband survived the tragedy.However, I could see the sadness in his eyes. It breaks my heart too,” she said.

Mohd Hasif also received a visit from Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
