Elderly man suffering from dementia reported missing in Serian


SIBU: An elderly man suffering from dementia has been reported missing in Kampung Kakeng, Serian after not returning home since Friday (May 17).

Denis Nyawod, 76, was last seen at noon that day. Family members and villagers then searched the village and garden but could not find him.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said in its daily update Monday (May 20) that a report was received at 11.23am on Saturday (May 18).

It immediately launched a search and rescue operation for the missing man.

"The search and rescue (SAR) operation on the second day (Sunday, May 19) started in the morning involving the police, the K9 unit, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Rela and the villagers.

"(They were) divided into two groups and the search was carried out in Sector A and B around 4km from the Fire Control Centre.

"The search was carried out through the road of the victim's pepper garden and the hill next to the village with the help of a tracking dog, Daisy, but the victim was not found.

"The search operation resumed on Monday,” it added.
