Elderly woman burns to death in fire that razed seven Sibu houses


SIBU: An elderly woman was burnt to death when a row of seven wooden houses in Lorong Kwong Tung caught fire on Tuesday (May 21)

The deceased has been identified as Lim Moi Kee, 72.

The state Fire and Rescue Department, in its daily update, said firefighters who arrived at the scene found the body of the victim at the front door of her house.

The victim's house was also totally destroyed in the fire.

"We received a distress call at 6.43am and immediately deployed a team of firefighters to the scene and found the fire at its height," it said.

It added that of the seven houses, only five were occupied by a total of 20 people.

The deceased's body has been handed to the police for further action.
