Lorry accident claims three lives near Sibu


SIBU: Three people have lost their lives after the lorry they were in crashed near here on Monday (May 20).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the lorry crashed and overturned at around 5pm at Batu 17, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu.

"Two of its passengers, aged 20 and 21, were thrown out of the lorry.

They suffered serious head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Hospital Sibu," he said.

ACP Zulkipli said the 23-year-old driver died while receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death. – Bernama
