Comms ministry denies new WhatsApp regulation rumours

PUTRAJAYA: The Communications Ministry has refuted claims that it introduced new regulations for WhatsApp voice calls and text messages.

The ministry issued a statement on Thursday (May 23) cautioning the public against propagating false information.

"The ministry categorically denies issuing any statements concerning new regulations for WhatsApp communication features, as has been falsely circulated online," the ministry said, according to Sinar Harian.

Rumours had claimed that all WhatsApp calls would be monitored by the ministry, with other social media platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram also supposedly implicated.
