Police warn public not to share video of acid attack on footballer

PETALING JAYA: The police are warning the public not to share a video that allegedly shows the acid attack on footballer Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim as this will interfere with its ongoing investigation.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said an investigation had been initiated under Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 to find the suspect who leaked the closed-circuit television camera footage.

"Those involved in spreading the video can be charged with disclosure of information under Section 203a of the Penal Code, and if convicted, fined up to RM1mil, jailed up to one year, or both," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 23).

He added that they can also be charged with misusing network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act which carries a fine up to RM50,000, or jailed up to one year, or both.

He said police would take action against any individual found distributing the video and also advised the public to respect the family's privacy.

The video, first shared by OneFootball.my on X, shows a masked man approaching the victim and splashing him with acid.

The incident happened at a mall in Damansara on May 5.
