Man charged with hurting mother ordered to undergo psychiatric observation


KUALA KANGSAR: An unemployed man who allegedly hit his mother with a spanner while the woman was performing her prayers was ordered by the Sessions Court here Friday (May 24) to be sent for psychiatric observation.

Judge Rohaida Ishak ordered Mohamad Helmi Hamzah, 29, to be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta Tanjung Rambutan following a request by deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Firdaus Nor Azlan.

Mohamad Helmi, who was unrepresented, had raised his shoulder when the charge was read to him, but no plea was recorded.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law, with voluntarily hurting Noraina Ismail, 54, with a dangerous weapon at about 6.30am last May 21 in a house in Kampung Bongor, Gerik.

The court set June 24 for mention. - Bernama
