GEORGE TOWN: A 24-year-old university student died after falling from the 21st floor of a hotel in Tanjung Bungah here.
Police sources said she was on a holiday trip with her boyfriend and that both were from Kelantan.
The authorities were alerted after passers-by discovered her body.
According to sources, her boyfriend was in the shower during the incident at about 3.35pm on Wednesday.
According to reports, the boyfriend only realised what had happened after seeing a crowd of people on the ground floor before going down to the scene himself.
Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad confirmed receiving reports on the incident and said police had recorded a statement from the boyfriend.
Northeast district OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid was quoted as saying that preliminary investigations found no criminal element in the case.
