Man found drowned after falling into river near Segamat


SEGAMAT: A 66-year-old man drowned after falling into a river at Sungai Kampung Balai Badang in Buloh Kasap here.

Segamat Fire and Rescue Department senior commanding officer Muhd Hazim Abd Razak said that the department received a report on the victim at 4.47pm on Friday (May 24).

“His wife had lodged a report saying that her husband had not returned home after tending to his boat at the river at 9am on Friday.

“The victim had tried to move his boat to a safer location during high tide and was believed to have fallen into the river,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (May 26).

He added that the body was located about 500 metres from where he was believed to have fallen at 10.20am on Sunday.

“The body was brought to the Segamat Hospital for a post-mortem and has been handed over to his family for the burial process,” he added.

Meanwhile, Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the body of the victim was found fully-clothed and had been stuck on the roots of the bushes along the river.

“The search and rescue operation was officially called off at 12.30pm on Sunday. We also would like to remind the public to always be mindful of uncertain weather,” he added.
