Cops seize nearly 215kg of MDMA worth RM33.65mil in Sentul condo raid

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 213.4kg of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) worth RM33.65mil was seized following a raid on a condominium unit used as a drug packaging centre.

Two men were also detained in the raid.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Comm Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said both men, aged 32 and 33 years old, were nabbed at a condominium in Sentul at about 3.50pm on Sunday (May 26).

"They were working as a runner and a drug packager. They were paid about RM3,000.

"We also seized 213.4kg of MDMA worth RM33.65mil," he told a press conference at the KL police headquarters on Tuesday (May 28).

Comm Khaw said the syndicate would rent a condominium unit to package the MDMA drug powder juice before distributing it to entertainment outlets in the Klang Valley.

"We believe each packet of drugs is sold between RM300 and RM600.

"The syndicate has been operating since early this year," he said.

Both suspects tested negative for drug consumption, he said.

"Each of the suspects had a criminal record, with 10 prior offences, including for drug-related crimes," he said.

The drugs seized could have been supplied to as many as 700,000 addicts, Comm Khaw said.

"The suspects have been remanded until June 2," he added.

He also urged those with information on drug-related crimes to contact the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.

"We need the cooperation of the public to successfully combat the drug menace," he said.
