Foul stench from neighbour's house led to discovery of dead body in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A foul stench from a neighbour’s house in the Sandakan district led to the discovery of a corpse on Thursday (May 30).

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abd Malek said a man who noticed the terrible stench coming from his neighbour’s house alerted police at 11:53 a.m.

“Following this report, a team was sent to check on the house,” he said in a statement.

He said upon arrival, they found a woman by the name of Thein Chee Vun, 55, lifeless.

She was discovered in a seated position in front of her room.

“This case is being classified as sudden death. No foul play is suspected for the time being,” said ACP Abdul Fuad.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department officials said they received a call to unlock a locked house unit prior to the discovery.

When they managed to break open the door, they saw the deceased woman.

The body was handed over to the police for further action.
