Retired teacher tied up and robbed in Sabah home

KOTA KINABALU: A retired teacher was bound and robbed at Kg Datung Melabau, Beaufort district, in the wee hours of Thursday (May 30).

Prior to the 2.40am incident, the former teacher had just finished her morning prayers when she saw a figure passing by her house window.

“When she went to check around her house, she saw an unidentified person wearing a helmet with its visor down standing in front of her kitchen door,” said Beaufort OCPD Deputy Supt Ismail Abdullah.

The suspect was believed to have shut the door and pushed the victim to the floor, before tying her hands with tape and taking her to her room, he said.

He said the suspect later allegedly threatened to kill the victim if she tried to call for help.

“The man is suspected to have grabbed the bracelet on the woman’s arm before grabbing two bags and cash nearby,” said DSP Ismail.

He said based on initial investigations, the victim lost a gold bracelet, her bag which contained personal identification documents and RM2,300 cash, bringing the losses incurred to around RM12,700.

A manhunt has been mounted for the suspect and the case is being investigated for causing hurt during a robbery and threatening, he said.

“Those with information about this case are urged to come forward and facilitate investigations,” DSP Ismail said.
