Body of man discovered near car in Pontian

PONTIAN: The body of a man was found lying in a car near a chicken coop in Kampung Parit Baru, Kayu Ara Pasong near here on Friday.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said police received a call from a 25-year-old local man at 12.45pm about the discovery of the body.

“The caller informed us that he found the body in a white car at around 10am,’’ he said in a statement on Friday (May 31).

Supt Mohammad Shofee said an initial investigation found that the body was in the driver’s seat and the man is believed to have died a few days ago.

He said this was based on the condition of the victim’s body which was already decaying.

“The victim was also reported missing on May 21, and his family has been informed to identify the body at Pontian Hospital,’’ added Supt Mohammad Shofee.

He said the case is classified as sudden death until the autopsy report is released.

Supt Mohammad Shofee has called those with information regarding the case to contact the Pontian Police District headquarters at 07-686999 or go to the Kayu Ara Pasong police station.

Meanwhile, Pontian Fire and Rescue station chief Azhar Abdul Jalil said they received a call about the discovery of the body at 1.47pm.

He said seven firemen, a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle and a Fire Response Vehicle were deployed to the site located about 18km from the Pontian Fire station.

“Our men assisted the police to remove the body of the 31-year-old male victim from the car,’’ Azhar said in a statement.

The operation led by operation commander Mohd Edzwan Harun ended at 2.40pm.
