Cops nab two drug transporters after luggage flagged at KLIA 2

SEPANG: Drug transporters who made multiple trips to Kuala Lumpur in the last three months were caught on their eighth trip after their luggage was flagged by the authorities.

In a press conference Friday (May 31) at the Airport Management Centre here, Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that one man was arrested at KLIA Terminal 2 at around 4am on May 30.

Following this, a second arrest was made at a nearby hotel, involving a person police believe to be involved in the same drug syndicate.

Two suitcases were flagged at the airport and more detailed inspections led to the discovery of 37 packages (38.85kg) of suspected syabu.

The drugs were estimated to be valued at RM1,243,200.

Comm Hussein said that the suspects confessed to have made seven prior trips to and from Sarawak in the last three months.

“This is their eighth. There is a possibility that the suspects had successfully transported drugs in some of those trips.

“We will follow up with our counterparts in Sarawak to find and trace more members of this group,” he said, adding that the drugs were believed to be intended for the Sarawak market.

Both were believed to had been paid around RM2,500 per trip.

Comm Hussein added that the suitcases were not modified to hide the drugs.

“You can see by the volume and the size of the bags, how can you hide the drugs?” he asked.

Both suspects, aged 34 and 36 years old, also tested positive for methamphetamine. They have been remanded for seven days.
