RM100 book vouchers for tertiary students to be given out in stages, says Zambry

PUTRAJAYA: The RM100 book vouchers for tertiary students will be distributed in stages, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

The Higher Education Minister said ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang will be announcing the distribution method soon.

“The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) wants (the distribution of vouchers) to begin this evening,” he told the media after his monthly assembly with ministry staff here on Friday (May 31).

Zambry said the distribution will prioritise reaching those who can use the vouchers on the last three days of the Kuala Lumpur International Book Festival 2024 which ends on Sunday (June 2).

“The (remainder) will be distributed at higher education institutions (HEIs),” he added.

On Thursday (May 30), Anwar announced that students from Year Four until tertiary level will each receive book vouchers worth RM100 from Friday.

On another matter, Zambry said the ministry has been having in-depth discussions on national manpower needs with various ministries including the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, Economy Ministry and Human Resources Ministry.

He said they are “taking a proactive approach” to ensure that the country can meet industries' manpower needs, especially those receiving foreign direct investment (FDI).
