A WOMAN in Tamil Nadu, India, was awarded 2.5 million rupees (RM141,000) in compensation after doctors removed her uterus without her consent and left a towel inside her after the surgery, Makkal Osai reported.
The unnamed woman apparently went in for surgery to remove a cyst in her uterus at a private hospital in Trichi.
When she continued to suffer from pain after the surgery, she underwent a scan at another hospital, where it was found that her uterus had been removed entirely and there was a surgical towel inside her.
The woman filed a case at the Madurai court asking for action against the hospital and compensation for her suffering.
It was not clear if the hospital faced further action by the authorities.
> The daily also reported that four pupils from Tadika Sinar Nilam in Rawang, Selangor, won gold medals at the World Young Inventors Exhibition 2024 event.
The six-year-old pupils were the youngest participants in the event, which saw nearly 700 inventions from 15 countries.
Sinar Nilam founder Saravanan Arumugam and head-teacher Sangeetha Kanniappan helped prepare them for the event.
They developed a new type of organic fertiliser using earthworms, which won them the gold medal.
The kindergarten plans to let the pupils continue taking part in such events, Sangeetha said.
