Accident claims lives of pregnant woman, unborn child in Melaka


MELAKA: A 27-year-old woman, who was nine months pregnant, was killed in an accident on Jalan Taming Sari here along with her unborn baby on Saturday (June 1).

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Puteri Nur Iman Hamidun from Bukit Beruang here.

He said in the 10.05pm incident, the victim who was riding pillion on a motorcycle with her 28-year-old husband succumbed to serious injuries at the Melaka Hospital together with her unborn child.

ACP Christopher Patit said the couple was on the way to Melaka Hospital for a medical check-up before colliding with a car driven by a 41-year-old housewife along the stretch at the city centre.

He said the car was coming out from a junction when the motorcycle hit the vehicle.

ACP Christopher said the victim's husband, who works as a security guard, suffered bruises while the car driver was unhurt.

He added that the accident is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
