KUALA LUMPUR: The membership of six Members of Parliament from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), who expressed support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has been automatically revoked, says Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

According to Astro Awani, the Bersatu Youth Wing said the rogue MPs' membership was cancelled because they violated the party's instructions to sign a loyalty letter.

According to the Machang MP, their refusal to sign the letter also caused them to lose their parliamentary seats.

"If they still support the Prime Minister, they violate the Perikatan Nasional and Bersatu policies. Therefore, they are no longer considered members, and the party's Anti-Jump Act is in effect," he said.

The six Bersatu Members of Parliament who supported Anwar are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang).

On Saturday (June 1), Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said 25 MPs and 58 state assemblymen had pledged their continued loyalty to Bersatu.

"According to Article 10.4 of the Bersatu constitution, disobedience to any directive issued by the Supreme Leadership Council results in the immediate cessation of membership in the party," he said.

Muhyiddin added that the supreme council's special directive was made following amendments to the party's constitution, recently approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), and complies with the requirements of Article 49A of the Federal Constitution regarding anti-party hopping.
