HONG Kong superstar Jacky Cheung boasts that his figure remains the same and he still fits into trousers worn a decade ago, China Press reported.
The 62-year-old, who returned to perform at the Taipei Arena, told fans that he was the same man they knew back when he performed in Taiwan six years ago.
“I have returned after six years. It has been too long. Is everyone well? I am doing well. There hasn’t been much change. I can still wear the jeans I wore more than 10 years ago.
“When friends see me, they will ask why I am wearing something I wore a decade ago. If the piece of clothing does not have holes in it, and can still be worn, there is no reason not to wear it,” he said.
Cheung, who is known as the God of Songs, reassured fans that he will be able to perform on stage for years to come.
“This is my 136th concert (in his 60+ Concert Tour). I have sung 136 times, and I will continue singing. I know everyone grew up with my songs,” he said.
“But do not worry. Jacky Cheung is not afraid of growing old. I will continue doing what I love to do.”
He started his set with Remain At This Time and ended with his classic I Just Want To Be With You For The Rest Of My Life.
When asked to give an encore, he performed six more tunes before calling it a night.
He will be performing eight more concerts in Taiwan over the coming three weeks.
> The daily also reported that veteran singer Na Ying, who was a famous judge on a reality singing competition for many years, continued to disappoint fans with her lacklustre performance in the latest season of Singer.
The 56-year-old attempted to perform King of Mandopop Jay Chou’s Step Aside but the first note was out of tune.
She continued to falter throughout the song and only came in at fifth place.
“It feels like she was really forced to ‘step aside’ on stage,” one fan quipped.
Na Ying made her debut in 1988 and achieved mainstream success after the release of her 1994 album Dreaming With You, which led to her success in mainland China.
She is best known for her roles as a judge on Chinese reality TV singing competitions such as The Voice of China and Sing! China.
Rather than featuring unknown contestants, the reality show Singer is open only to professional singers from across the world.
It has been credited for reviving the careers of singers such Cyndi Wang, Rainie Yang and even the group Twins.
