PETALING JAYA: Two suspected criminals were killed in a shootout with the police at the Tanjung Malim rest stop along the North-South Expressway.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said a team comprising personnel from Bukit Aman and Perak CID were tailing a car at about 11.32pm on Saturday.
“Realising they were being followed, the suspects sped up and entered the expressway. The police gave chase and cornered them at the Tanjung Malim rest stop.
“The suspects fired several shots at the police, forcing them to fire back,” he said in a statement yesterday, adding that two men died at the scene.
“One of the suspects had a criminal record with 23 prior offences, including six cases where he was wanted by the police.
“We are investigating under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder) and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.”
Comm Hussein urged those with more information on the incident to report at the nearest police station or contact Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-6064 1223.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain urged all to give the police room to thoroughly investigate the murder of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.
Razarudin said there have been no further arrests after the autistic child’s parents were nabbed in Puncak Alam last Friday.
“They (the victim’s parents) have been remanded for seven days (from Saturday). We need to give Selangor police time to investigate,” he told reporters yesterday, Bernama reported.
On Dec 6, Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a stream near his residence at Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai, Selangor.
