Cops looking for trio over Sabah fuel station break-in

KOTA KINABALU: Three men smashed the glass wall of a fuel station here before making away with loot, including cash and cigarettes, in Sabah’s interior Keningau district early Monday.

The incident at Sook town, which took place at 12.30am when the station was closed, was recorded on its closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Keningau police chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said they were notified of the incident by the station manager later that morning.

He said that the CCTV recording showed the suspects arriving in a car.

“The suspects were wearing jackets, long trousers and gloves while their faces were covered,” he said when contacted.

“However, our checks on the registration plate number found that it was falsified as it was registered under a different vehicle,” he added.

Supt Yampil said the suspects had used slingshots and a crowbar during the crime.

“One of them shot at the glass wall until it shattered before the two other suspects went into the station to steal.

“Efforts are underway to locate the trio,” he said, adding the case was being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into the station to commit a burglary.

In addition to cash and cigarettes, the suspects allegedly stole a mobile phone, resulting in a total loss of approximately RM4,500.

Meanwhile, later the same day, a woman died instantly after she was ejected from a car during an accident at Kampung Kawang in Kinarut, Papar.

The 44-year-old victim was confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers, while two others, aged 16 and 39, who were also in the car, sustained minor injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that their car veered off a slippery stretch, causing the victim to be thrown out, before the vehicle ended up in a ditch 50m away.
