JOHOR BARU: A family here managed to escape safely when their Taman Setia Tropika home caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday (June 4).

Tebrau fire station chief Shamsul Khomari Bakar said they received a distress call about a fire at the house at around 5.39am.

“We deployed 16 firemen from the Tebrau and Larkin fire stations with two Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS).

“The operation was led by M. Yogalingam. When we reached the scene, the house's porch was on fire and was 40% damaged,” he said.

Shamsul Khomari added that there were six people staying inside the house when it caught fire.

“The family escaped through the kitchen door, which is located at the back of their house; there were four children aged between seven and 16. The fire also damaged the house next door, a MPV and a motorcycle," he said.

Shamsul Khomari said that the operation ended at around 7.33am while the department was still investigating the cause of the fire and loss assessment.
