TOKYO: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul received a courtesy call from Japan’s Opposition Leader, Izumi Kenta on Monday (June 3) at the Members’ Office Building of the Japan House of Councillors.
During the 30-minute call, Johari and Kenta exchanged views on the two countries' current political situations, including the young leadership and challenges of the opposition party.
Kenta is the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
Amidst the meeting, Johari said collaborating on a young leadership programme will ensure a brighter future based on innovation and reinvigorated perspectives for the Asian region.
"We are investing heavily in nurturing young leaders, and we look forward to collaborating closely with Japan on this front to secure shared prosperity.
"Malaysia and Japan have a long relationship, and with this understanding, both countries will benefit from this good relationship,” Johari said.
They have also confirmed that they continue to work closely together to further develop the cordial relationship between Japan and Malaysia.
Johari is leading a Malaysian parliamentary delegation to Japan for a five-day visit starting Monday.
The diplomatic relationship between Japan and Malaysia was established in 1957.
In 2023, Japan remained Malaysia's fourth largest trading partner for nine successive years since 2015. – Bernama
