JOHOR BARU: A total of 13,846 users have used the MyTRIP QR Code for bus and motorcycle services at the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) of Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Gelang Patah.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that the testing process for QR code checks, initiated on June 1, has been proceeding smoothly.
“Some 117,000 users have downloaded the application, and 13,846 have utilised the QR code for travel through KSAB. The same trial process for bus routes is underway at CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI).
"The department is in the final stages of refining the QR Code application's requirements to ensure a smooth rollout," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 4).
He said that usage of the QR code for immigration inspections is currently in a trial phase as a proof-of-concept (POC) for three months.
"This period involves only Malaysian citizens using bus and motorcycle services at CIQ KSAB, as well as bus services at CIQ BSI.
"The department is committed to ensuring that the QR code system at both CIQ KSAB and CIQ BSI operates effectively, easing transit at the Malaysia-Singapore border," he added.
Earlier, The Star reported that the QR code system for Malaysian travellers has seen an encouraging response, with nearly 70,000 people registering to use the trial system aimed at expediting immigration clearance at the border crossings with Singapore.
MyTRIP, integrated within the MySejahtera app, has functioned seamlessly from the start of the POC on June 1 and has been successfully tested at KSAB. However, the QR code system at CIQ BSI has faced delays due to technical issues.
