Rakyat hail down-to-earth King

KUALA LUMPUR: Patrons had a pleasant surprise when His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, visited a nasi lemak restaurant in Kampung Baru here.

In a post on Sultan Ibrahim’s Facebook page, His Majesty arrived at Nasi Lemak Wanjo restaurant for breakfast yesterday, Bernama reported.

“Sultan Ibrahim also spent time talking and taking pictures with those present,” it said.

The King also obliged requests from patrons who wanted to take photographs with him.

Meanwhile, comments from His Majesty’s official Instagram account post garnered over 12,000 likes, with over a hundred users expressing their joy at seeing His Majesty spending time with the people, with many hoping that His Majesty continues with this trend in other states.

A user named caspermoja wrote: “There is a lontong stall right in front of Nasi Lemak Wanjo. The lontong darat padu is the same as the one in Johor. Hopefully, Tuanku gets a chance to try it next time.”

Nazrul_johan commented: “Hopefully Tuanku gets to visit every state to try their breakfast food. The rakyat awaits His Majesty’s arrival.”

Another user by the name of Keisuke.honda.9843 hopes His Majesty could come to Sabah.

“After this, I hope His Majesty can organise a surprise breakfast programme, from Telupid to Bongawan and even Kinabatangan! Give a surprise to the locals.”

annielau_2766 was happy to see the King meeting with Malaysians.

“Glad to see heartwarming videos about our King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim, patronising restaurants. This exhibits his Majesty’s tireless efforts to meet and get closer to the people.

“Raja dan rakyat berpisah tiada. (The Ruler and the people are inseparable).”

Meanwhile, users at His Majesty’s official Facebook post were equally as happy at His Majesty’s surprise visit, with many praising him and recommending him other places to go and enjoy food.

Eyenul Hazmin wishes the King could make a repeat visit.

“Hope you can visit Kampung Baru again; there are many other good restaurants to visit.”

“This is the best King’s birthday celebration with the people while enjoying nasi lemak for breakfast,” said Taufik Tromar.

Ariff Urus Nework said that Sultan Ibrahim is a Ruler who likes to go eat out at the stalls and thus be closer to the rakyat.
