PONTIAN: Another search and rescue (SAR) operation is underway to find a missing fisherman who fell into Sungai Benut here.
Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the missing person had been identified as 52-year-old Samsudin Bachok, who has been missing since Monday (June 3).
He added that the victim’s 48-year-old wife lodged a report at 9.04am on Tuesday (June 4) as Samsudin failed to return home.
“The wife said that the victim left their house on Monday, but he did not return home, and she could not locate him. The victim also did not bring a mobile phone with him.
“The wife was only able to find her husband’s motorcycle, which is parked behind a pallet factory near Sungai Benut, and she has reason to believe that the victim may have fallen into the river,” he said here on Tuesday.
Supt Mohammad Shofee added that according to the wife, her husband is a physical handicap card holder as he has a limp on the right leg.
“Checks with several fishermen found that they spotted the victim along the riverbank of Sungai Benut on Monday evening,” he said, adding that the SAR was immediately called at around 11am.
Supt Mohammad Shofee also said that 18 personnel from the police, Marine Police Region II, Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force were involved in the operation.
