Woman dies after car crashes into guardrail in Sibu


SIBU: A woman was killed while two others were injured when the car they were travelling in crashed into a guardrail along Jalan Kelupu-Julau-Durin, heading towards the Julau Flyover.

Bintangor Fire and Rescue Station chief Nicholas Belulin said the deceased was identified as Eveely Emilya Epah, 22, who was the front passenger.

He said the victim’s husband, the driver Wilson Ajut, 25, sustained injuries to his left hand.

Another passenger, Linda Ujang, 19, fractured her left leg.

He said that an emergency call was received at 10.15pm on Sunday and a team was dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival at the scene, the team found that the victim was trapped in the front passenger seat while the driver managed to save himself.

The rear passenger was rescued by health personnel, he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

Firemen extricated the deceased from the crushed vehicle using special equipment.

Based on the initial information received by the Fire and Rescue Department, the incident occurred when the trio were travelling from Betong in the southern part of Sarawak to Song, Kapit, in the central part of the state.
