National Day and Malaysia Day Celebration shows multi-racial united Malaysia, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: This year's National Day and Malaysia Day Celebration theme – Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka – is a symbol of holistic integration of multi-racial Malaysians, says the Communications Minister.

Fahmi Fadzil also said that the Cabinet has agreed to maintain the celebration’s logo that portrays the word “Malaysia Madani”.

“Malaysia Madani is the backbone of the country's prosperity and progress supported by six main core values.

“Meanwhile, Jiwa Merdeka expresses the people's freedom from any negative elements in interpreting the patriotic spirit through aspects of thinking, social and economic integration and then forming a strong, harmonious unity of the people and progress,” he said on Wednesday (June 5).

Fahmi, who is also the National Day and Malaysia Day 2024 Celebration Main Committee chairman, said this at the launching ceremony of the National Day and Malaysia Day celebration’s theme and logo at his ministry here.

He added that the committee has outlined various events to further enliven the celebration nationwide.

“The launching of the National Month and Kibar Jalur Gemilang ceremony will take place on July 13.

“The ceremony will become the starting point for the grand celebration countdown that will be in Putrajaya on Aug 31.

“Moreover, the momentum will continue with the celebration of Malaysia Day on Sept 16 in Sabah,” he said.

Fahmi also said that a vehicle convoy, Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang, will also be travelling nationwide packed with activities to promote patriotism throughout the National Month.

He added that details of other programmes in conjunction with the National Month will be made available through an official website at www.merdeka360.my.

He also called for all Malaysians to participate in the “Inisiatif 1 Rumah, 1 Jalur Gemilang”, where he encouraged the waving of the national flag.

“Decorate your houses with the flag that represents our identity on the global platform,” he added.

Last year, more than 100,000 people attended the National Day 2023 celebration at Dataran Putrajaya.

Themed "Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan", last year's National Day celebration involved 17,262 participants, 67 contingents, 36 brass bands, 534 land and air assets, and 100 service animals.
