Two charged with duping woman over ‘Datukship’


MELAKA: A clerical assistant of a government department and a contractor claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to a charge of soliciting a kickback amounting to RM47,000 to help secure an honorific title awarded by the state.

The pleas of accused Razizam Ali, 42, and Low Kia Seng, 58, were recorded before judge Elesabet Paya Wan yesterday.

The two were jointly charged with a common intention of allegedly deceiving Seet Xiang Lin, 38, into believing she was able to be a recipient of Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka, which carries the title “Datuk”.

Seet had surrendered a total of RM47,000 between Jan 1, 2017 and Nov 30, 2018, by depositing the money into Low’s bank account.

The court granted a bail of RM30,000 for Low, and RM15,000 with one surety and another RM15,000 without for Razizam.

Both were also directed to report to the MACC office here once a month till the end of the proceedings.
