Missing fishermen found safe in Sapulut Forest after search and rescue operation


The two victims were found safe two days after they were reported missing in the Tibow Sepulut Forest in Sook.

KOTA KINABALU: Two men feared missing after entering the Sapulut Forest in Sook two days ago were found safe on Thursday (June 6).

The victims, identified as Jerome Alan Ansibin, 23, and Baranti Binukut @ Siem, 30, were said to have entered the forest area to go fishing.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre assistant chief Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said a team of four, led by operation commander Faisal Ahmad, was dispatched to the location after receiving a distress call at 8.45am.

He said they arrived at the scene, about 114km from the station, at 11.5am.

To conduct the search and rescue operation with other agencies, including the 11 policemen, five from the Malaysian Civil Defence and 25 forestry personnel.

“The two victims were found by the roadside by the forestry personnel at 3.45pm and were handed to the police for further action,” said Riki Mohan.

He added that the operation was called off at 3.50pm.
