SEREMBAN: While many tend to choose jobs, these three disabled people are willing to sunbathe in the heat and among the garbage every day to earn a living.

In fact, they are proud when they can be independent and earn an income to support themselves by working at SWM Environment Sdn Bhd Negri Sembilan.

In an interview with Sinar Harian, Mohd Hasif Abd Rani, 37, who suffers from hearing problems, said that not everyone can work in the public cleaning field which is exposed to various risks, especially weather conditions.

"The biggest challenge is when the weather is hot. However, the task needs to be carried out well to ensure that no complaints are received from the public.

"Our world is dirty but the money we receive is clean and halal," said Mohd Hasif who has worked in the cleaning department for two years.

Mohd Hasif said, what makes him proud is when he can be independent without expecting his parents and siblings to help him with daily living.

At the same time, Mohd Hasif said, he is able to help his parents by sharing his income every month.

For Mohd Aszmizan Mohd Hasan, 34, although he is eligible to receive assistance from the Social Welfare Department, his parents taught him to work hard and not rely solely on any government assistance.

"I started my job as a solid waste collection officer in 2015 after often accompanying my parents who are also cleaning workers at the same company.

"My parents taught me to learn to live independently from a young age," said Mohd Aszmizan, who also has hearing problems and difficulty in speaking.

Meanwhile, another hearing-impaired worker, Mohd Rossazali Roslan, 42, said he was proud of his achievements because he was able to earn an income.

"I am grateful for having my own vehicle and being able to live a normal life like everyone else, despite having shortcomings.

"One of my dreams is to have a family of my own that can accept my shortcomings.

"My family members also accept my job as a cleaner and they always give me moral support to do my job well," he said.

Meanwhile, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd's Corporate General Manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, said that a total of 18 employees were disabled at the company.

"The disabled are also able to use their power to contribute to the country and the company is always open to giving them opportunities to generate income.
