IPOH: The police would never purposely delay the completion of a report under investigation, says Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
He said, however, that some investigations could take longer than others.
"When we receive a report, we don't just simply investigate it, as it must go through the proper process.
"This can take time," he told a press conference after a contest with media personnel at the state shooting range here on Friday (June 7).
"In some cases, for example, we need to get the medical, chemical or Fire and Rescue Department reports.
"We also do not want investigation papers to pile up as we receive reports every day.
"If possible, we want to complete an investigation as soon as possible so we can press charges," he added.

Earlier this week, a security firm manager sought clarification from police over a report he lodged last year involving alleged criminal breach of trust.
The report was said to have been lodged in March last year, and the manager claimed he had not received any updates from the investigating officer.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad later responded that the matter must be investigated in accordance with the law.
Comm Yusri said commercial crime cases often take a lot of time to be completed.
"We need to get the necessary documents or call up witnesses but sometimes, they are not in the state or even abroad.
"I have instructed our investigating officers to always cooperate with and provide updates to complainants on the progress of their reports," he added.
