Sibu man jailed, fined for assaulting sister in inheritance dispute


SIBU: A man has been sentenced to one day in prison and fined RM3,000 by a Magistrate's Court here on Friday (June 7) for assaulting his sister over a family property dispute.

The accused, Ngu Ming Wei, 52, pleaded guilty under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code, before Magistrate Oon Kork Chern.

Ngu was charged with intentionally causing injury to his sister by punching her in the stomach and kicking her back at a house in Tanjung Ensurai on April 4 at about 10.50am.

Based on the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the complainant had gone to their father's house in Tanjung Ensurai to deliver food.

The accused attacked the victim because he was unhappy and jealous of the victim regarding the inheritance of the family's land, which favoured her.

The incident was witnessed by the victim's father and her husband. Following a police report made by the victim, the police arrested the accused at a house in Jalan Poh Yew on April 4 at about 9.40pm.
