Blaze at West Port engulfs 14 containers, no injuries reported


KLANG: A total of 14 shipping containers were engulfed in flames at West Port, in Pulau Indah.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the incident occurred at about 1.40pm on Saturday (June 8).

"Firemen from five fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

"Initially, 10 containers (40 feet in size) were on fire, but it spread to four other containers, bringing the total containers involved to 14," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said The port's management made efforts to move the containers using a crane.

"The fire was under control by 2.39pm.

"The containers were storing various items including unbleached craft paper, iron, pine wood sawn scaffolding equipment, aluminium alloys and washing machines," he said.

Wan Md Razali said no one was hurt during the incident.
